MULLER VAN SEVEREN – Coasters

MULLER VAN SEVEREN - Coasters

With both Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen being artists, their collections sit somewhere between design and art. “It’s obviously ‘furniture’ but the emphasis is not completely concentrated on function and suggests different ways of living and use of space… an uncanny twist on universal forms.”

Muller Van Severen’s notion of colour and colour combinations is not less intriguing. Sometimes subtle, sometimes contrastingly bold, but always with a harmonious result. Such as the Coasters that are both wall sculptures and functional objects.

Harvested, hand-picked and pressed in Cordoba, Spain – the Extra Virgin Olive Oil by ILĀ. Warm, fruity and nutty in flavour, the olives are picked and pressed in a 100-year old mill situated among the ancient groves of Andalusia. The olives are of exceptional quality and are said to produce a richer, smoother olive oil with a more golden hue than its Italian counterpart.

The Full Moon Lamp is designed by Cédric Ragot for French furniture brand Roche Bobois. The design brand had given free rein to the French industrial designer to create a collection led by what Ragot called a ‘free composition’. The Full Moon Lamp is one of the designs in a range of beautiful objects rich in eclectic influences, creativity and aesthetic.

From industrial design to interiors, the work of Cédric Ragot pushes the boundaries of the contemporary arts and has been hailed as some of the most innovative work to be created by his generation. His ability to blend creative imagination with innovative technical solutions led to furniture and accessory designs that will hopefully bear the imprint of his talent long into the future.

We’d love to spend our summer in Maison Kamari – a cosy, beautifully designed 180 sqm house on the island of Paros. Designed by local Greek architects, this welcoming, minimalist white home boasts an amazing 300 sqm terrace that overlooks both the valley and sea.

The property's main house features an enormous open kitchen / dining room / living space, along with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A separate guesthouse offers a third bedroom. Each room has been designed to respect the privacy of its guests – the bedrooms are separated from each other, and the bathrooms are all ensuite. The rooms have been furnished with extraordinary luxury to ensure guests have quality sleep and rest. Enormous care was put into the design – both interior and exterior – in order to make the house as cosy, welcoming, enjoyable, and comfortable as possible.

LAURA BILDE - The Mammut Table

Laura Bilde is a furniture and interior designer from Aarhus. Her work is characterised by exploratory simplicity – a design approach where she translates new materials into both aesthetic and functional objects.

DIETER RAMS - 'Less and More'

Alex Rückheim

‘Less and More’ captures the impressive legacy and design philosophy of one of the most influential designers of our time – Dieter Rams. Edited by product design experts Klaus Klemp and Keiko Ueki-Polet, the book visualises and describes the timeless quality of Rams’ design ethos on 808 pages. Mainly known for his work at Braun, and true to the principle of ‘less, but better’, Rams defined our fundamental understanding of what design is today.

This understanding is often summed up in the ten rules of design that he created more than thirty years ago, referred to as ‘the ten commandments’:

// Good design is innovative.

// Good design makes a product useful.

// Good design is aesthetic.

// Good design helps a product to be understood.

// Good design is unobtrusive.

// Good design is honest.

// Good design is durable.

// Good design is consistent to the last detail.

// Good design is environmentally friendly.

// Good design is as little design as possible.

Less and More is the reference book of Rams’ work and features images of hundreds of his products as well as his sketches and models  - from Braun stereo systems and electric shavers to the chairs and shelving systems that he created for Vitsœ. In addition to the rich visual presentation of his designs, the book contains texts by international design experts that explain how the work was created, and what this means in a contemporary context. Published by Gestalten.
