MIDORI – Brass Stationery Made in Japan
Alex Rückheim
Established in 1950, Japanese brand MIDORI creates sophisticated and creative stationery, combining design aesthetics and functionality. The brand designed a range of brass stationery products including this beautifully sleek ballpoint pen, pencil and ruler. The beauty of brass lies in its somewhat nostalgic feeling as its texture uniquely ages over time depending on how and in what environment you use it. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has its own gloss, and has been used in architecture, furniture and hardware, art and craftworks, etc., since antiquity. Over the years, its surface oxidizes to become a deep, tender colour hue worthy of long appreciation. Both the solid brass ballpoint pen and pencil are designed in a compact, two-part (open and closed) bullet-like shape.
