velt - contemporary shoes using classical production methods

Alex Rückheim

'Velt is a footwear label created by designers Stefan Rechsteiner and Patrick Rüegg, exploring the possibilities of producing contemporary shoes using classical production methods. Their success lies in the combination of their creative ideas and their conceptual dialogue, allowing them to achieve their desired goals whilst simultaneously using suitable materials. Patrick Rüegg and Stefan Rechsteiner share the same belief that design and manufacturing must go hand in hand to create a holistic product. they develop their ideas and prototypes in their Berlin design studio, which are then manufactured in their factory in Switzerland.'  Pictures by Velt.

Budnitz Bicyles - handmade titanium belt drive bicycles

Alex Rückheim

Paul Budnitz began creating titanium bicycles for his own use in 2002. Almost immediately people began stopping him on the street to ask where they could buy a bicycle just like the one he was riding. 8 years later Budnitz Bicycles was founded with the mission of offering top-end bicycles for daily use. Since then the small company based out of Burlington, Vermont creates the fastest, lightest, and most beautiful city bicycles in the world. Working exclusively in titanium and cro-moly steel the company claims, their handmade bicycles last a lifetime and are a blast to ride - which is not hard to believe when looking at these stunning pieces of design and craftsmanship. All bicycles feature top-end components, the majority developed for bike racing by small boutique fabricators in the USA, Europe & Japan. ’Talking to Myself’ by Yohji Yamamoto

Alex Rückheim

In ‘Talking to Myself’ (2002), renowned Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto reflects upon himself and the objects he creates. Being personally involved in every stage of the book for the very first time, it meticulously recounts the phases of his life. Described as a veracious “extension of his own private world”, ‘Talking to Myself’ is more than simply a book; staying true to his signature style, pen and brush sketches and compositions help to emphasise Yamamoto’s conception of beauty and fashion – his desire to create anti-fashion through fashion itself. This artefact is a unique and dreamy, creative body of work hand-numbered in ink at the rear of each of the 6.500 copies. Pictures by Simon Freund.

TIEFSCHWARZ ’Fire it Out’ EP on Watergate Records

Alex Rückheim

As an integral part of the Watergate family, it is not altogether surprising to see Tiefschwarz making an appearance on Watergate Records. For the lead track, ‘Fire It Out‘, Ali and Basti decided to partner with the talents of Watergate resident Ruede Hagelstein: Deep and sinuous, the composition blends Tiefschwarz‘s distinctive, synth-y character with percussive grooves. Stay tuned for the duo‘s future releases. Pictures by Simon Freund.
