KEDU by MEMO Paris

Alex Rückheim

Created in Paris, Memo fragrances stand for an instinct for celebration, a pronounced love of travel to strange lands, and an inclination for dreams. Following its ‘Les Échapées’ collection – the first opus of fragrances for both men and women – Memo continues its olfactory journey with a vibrant vegetal and botanical collection: ‘Graines Vagabondes’ – wandering seeds. Taking its inspiration of seeds and their symbolic expression of life, the first fragrance in the collection – KEDU – is a composition structured around the symbiosis of sesame and grapefruit. Although the use of seeds in perfumery is not an altogether new phenomenon, “it’s quite original to give them the central place in a composition” says Aliénor Massenet, nose of Memo.

“The imaginative world that has arisen around seeds is ancestral and infinite. […] Not all of them are relevant to perfumery, however, they will be chosen according to the stories that we wish to tell and the accords that they create.”
- Clara Molloy, Creative Director

KEDU, referring to the ‘The Garden of Java’ in Indonesia, is characterised by a triptych set up: its olfactive features encompass the top note (oil of grapefruit, oil of mandarin, neroli), the heart note (maté absolute, fressia accord, rose-peony accord), and the base note (sesame absolute, white musk, moss). Its three key notes are oil of grapefruit, sesame absolute and white musk, giving the composition all of its depth and breadth. Price £168. Images by Ali Baï and Gladys Fabie.

Alex Rückheim

Neville stands for the ultimate in traditional yet modern British grooming. Inspired by old-fashioned men’s grooming and the refinement of the classic British barber shop, Neville fuses two worlds, both past and present. It combines a traditional approach to design and craftsmanship with modern, high-performance, naturally-derived formulas. Using only all-natural ingredients, Neville is backed-up with the expertise of award-winning beauty and lifestyle brand Cowshed. The result: a premium line of men’s shaving, hair, body and skincare products.
The Neville body wash is rich in mineral salts and vitamins, and crafted with a botanical blend of sugar cane, lemon, seaweed and pumpkin to both stimulate cell renewal and improve skin hydration. A.P.C. x Aesop Post-Poo Drops

Alex Rückheim

Established in 1987, Melbourne based brand Aesop set out with the aim to create a range of superior-quality products for the skin, hair and body. Marking their second collaborative project, Aesop and French brand A.P.C. teamed up in a rather intriguingly strange collaboration to create “an aromatic botanical bathroom deodoriser to combat the malodorous” – Post-Poo Drops. The toilet deodorising drops feature citrus peel notes and rich floral elements to effectively neutralise smells that occur after “vigorous bathroom activity”. All you need to do is dispense three drops into the toilet bowl after flushing. Also, it works. Pictures by Simon Freund.

WIN: PERFUME INSIDE BOOK BY EIGHT & BOB

Guest User

THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER.

The winner is S. Pleus and has been notified via email. Thank you for taking part in this giveaway and keep your eyes open for the next one.

The story of EIGHT & BOB began in 1937 when Albert Fouquet, the son of a Parisian aristocrat created and perfected various essences for his own personal use. Fouquet would surprise his guests, who were all part of an exclusive social circle and raised the demand for his fragrance but rejected several proposals to market his product. One night during his summer holiday in 1937 Albert meet John F. Kennedy, who was still a student at the time. J.F.K. was the first person to persuade Albert to give him a sample of his fragrance. When John F. Kennedy arrived back in the US, he sent a thank you letter to Albert, asking him to send "eight more bottles and one for Bob". Unfortunately the success did not spread much further when Albert died in a car accident in 1939. His former butler Philippe, who helped Albert with creating the fragrance from the very beginning, was the only one who could handle additional orders, but with the start of WW2, he was forced out of France. To hide the formula from the Nazis, he decided to place the fragrances inside books. Decades later, thanks to the family of Philippe, the formula of "EIGHT & BOB" has been recovered along with its carefully crafted production process.
