MOSCOT is a New York based brand known for its iconic eyewear - The MOSCOT Originals, MOSCOT Spirit and MOSCOT Sun Collections. With nearly 100 years of eyewear expertise and unmatched craftsmanship MOSCOT is recognized as a global fashion brand while staying true to it’s roots.
Hyman Moscot, who arrived in the US via Ellis Island in 1899 began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
By 1915 Hyman has established a loyal customer basis and opened his first retail shop, MOSCOT’s at 94 Rivington Street.
In 1925, Sol Moscot, the son of Hyman, joined the family business when he was only 15 years old.
About 11 years later, MOSCOT was settled at 118 Orchard Street, which would be its home for the next eight decades.
Sol’s son, Joel, began presiding over the “House of MOSCOT” in 1951 and quickly made his mark due to his charming and dedicated personality. He was overseeing the shop and conveyed his family’s values to his son, who would soon become the fourth generation to run the MOSCOT brand.
In 1986, Joel’s son, Dr. Harvey Moscot entered the family business. His youngest son Kenny followed suit, joining the business in 1992, and shortly after, the family oepned its second shop in downtown Manhattan.
In 2012, MOSCOT opened its Cour Street Shop in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn - bringing the family story full circle as the third generation Moscots were born and raised just down the way.
In March 2013, Harvey’s son, Zack Moscot, came on board, making him the fifth generation Moscot to join the family business.
In July 2013, after 77 years, the MOSCOT Orchard Street Shop “crossed Delancey Street,” from 118 Orchard to 108 Orchard when its iconic building was sold – an extraordinarily propitious outcome for an institution determined to keep a foothold in its beloved Lower East Side for the next generation of MOSCOT.
