Norman Behrendt - burning down the house

Alex Rückheim

BURNING DOWN Norman Behrendt

A photographic study of Berliner graffiti writers. The photobook burning down the house offers an in depth look at Berlin’s graffiti writer scene for the first time. Against the backdrop of publicly accessible and non-accessible surfaces being continually written upon, a constant presence of the subject in the media in relation to the surveillance of public space, the increasing costs of removal on behalf of transport companies and the accompanying harsher penalties for graffiti offences, the author Norman Behrendt has over a five year period approached the subject of graffiti writing in his own way. Detached from stereotypes and with the conscious decision to forgo the depiction of graffiti, Behrendt aims to introduce the anonymous authors of Berlin’s public space and give a human face to the often-discussed subject of the
illegal writing on the wall.

Instead of accompanying the graffiti writers on their nocturnal adventures and photographing them in action at the scene of their work’s execution, Behrendt decided on quieter alternative — a portrait.

Basalt Island Project by KAPOK

Alex Rückheim

Hong Kong based concept store KAPOK launches its very first Basalt Island Project; a capsule inspired by the multi-facetted, vibrant environment of Hong Kong. Finding its roots in the unique beauty of the Basalt Island, one of the 263 islands of the archipelago, the three-piece collection captivatingly epitomises the unceasing movement of the sea, evoking an eternal and perpetual movement.
KAPOK’s first basalt island candle enriches its surrounding with a uniquely-compelling scent: the invigorating scents of citrus-bergamot, lily of the valley, musk, and ‘fleur de sel’ embody the eclectic and magnificent cliff-side of the Basalt Island. The capsule also includes a Cotton totebag and a snap-on iPhone 6 case both featuring a graphic print designed by Kay Lam.

To those of you who don't know tencel: It's a eco-friendly, natural fiber, similar to rayon in feel and we highly appreciate the future forward approach of Filippa K. to include more sustainable materials in their collection. The colour card consists of a base of warm greys and beige tones tinted with grey, perfect for this year's spring. Blues range from light dustyblue to indigo and a dark blue-grey. Accents are sharp blue, sporty deep green and warm yellow. Make sure to check out the collection on their website or in one of Filippa K's retail locations.
