KINFOLK - Vol. 16 'The Essentials Issue'

Alex Rückheim

Kinfolk Magazine

Kinfolk’s sixteenth issue, The Essentials Issue, explores the different meanings of life’s fundamentals, the things that bring us back to our cores, and shows how we can implement them into our daily lives.

'Instead of determining how little we can live with, it’s about working out what we cannot live without.'

In my opinion, the excerpts taken from Peter Block’s book Community: The Structure of Belonging (pp. 49-59) is one of the most compelling and relevant articles of this issue. Moving away from the tangible concept of belonging, it discusses the ‘esoteric’ side of belongingness: a deap-seated desire we have to belong to something larger than ourselves, suggesting ways in which we can create a stronger sense of togetherness by fostering genuine support through our communities. 160 pages, offset-printed and perfect bound, full colour on uncoated paper. Printed in Canada.

PROJEKT SAMSEN - 3D-Printed Sunglasses

Alex Rückheim

In praise of innovation, technology and timeless aesthetics, the recently launched brand, PROJEKT SAMSEN, has introduced a stunning collection of 3D-printed sunglasses. The young Berlin-based label has developed a way to 3D print their Nylon-based mono-frames in one single yet highly stable and flexible piece. Their frames are the result of conscious and creative reinterpretation: Here, the interaction between the human and this everyday object is paramount in their well-grounded and elaborate design approach. Especially with the proliferation of 3D design and its increased recognition from both brands and consumers, we believe that PROJEKT SAMSEN is on a good way to potentially make their mark in the product design landscape. Price €180.

FARMERS’ - Hand-made Care Products

Alex Rückheim

Farmers Care Products

Nourishing ingredients, rich in texture but not too oily and greasy. Inspired by the labours of Welsh hill farmers, FARMERS’ produces handmade creams and balms that are based on unique product formulations including their essential ingredient, lavender oil, which comes from flowers just outside their windows. Created by creams designer, Helen Lowe, the FARMERS’ line focuses on ingredients that are beneficial – the products don’t contain any artificial colours or perfumes.

The FARMERS’ Hand Cream (100ml, £12) nourishes hard working hands with an earthy scent along refreshing peppermint and rosemary notes; their scrub (75ml, £14) is an exceptionally mild and exotic blend of oils of lavender, geranium, frankincense and bamboo powder effectively removing deep set impurities; and the nourishing lip balm (15g, £5) combines their essential lavender oil with lime oil and honey.
